Progressing cavity pumps and hydraulically driven reciprocating piston pumps are used to pump dewatered cake.Compared with conveyors, pumps offer the advantages of odor control, elimination of spills, and reduced maintenance. In addition, dewatered cake pumps require significantly less space than any of the other conveyor systems in existing buildings with space contraints. Noise levels can also be reduced in some cases.  These pumps should be limited to wet cake with solids concentration of approximately 29% or less, limited to pump rotational speeds to 100 rpm or less, and limited to the pressure per stage to 52 kPa.
