Even though the use of vacuum filters has largely been replaced by other filtering technology such as belt filters, there are still certain plants where the use of vacuum filters is very successful. A vacuum filter consists of a rotating cylindrical drum which is mounted on a horizontal axis of rotation and is partially submerged in a vat of sludge. The surface of the drum is covered with a porous material with dewatering properties. The operating performance of vacuum filters is measured by filter yield, the efficiency of solids capture, and the filter-cake characteristics | ||
