Here nitrified waste water is agitated in a carrier and then exposed to denitrifying bacteria. They decompose the harmful nitrous and nitrate elements and, once they have been drawn into the center of the carrier, they are propelled against the wall by centrifugal force. Additionally the medium in the carrier is re-aerated every 30 minutes or so to avoid build-up of methanol. Finally the excessive sludge is settled.
