There are two principal methods for precipitating dissolved substances chemically: Simultaneous precipitation: Aluminum or ferrous salts added as agents in the activated sludge tank or in the secondary clarifier precipitate the phosphates. These are then mixed in with the sludge for removal. Post precipitation: This process forms a true third stage in the plant. The effluent from the secondary clarifier flows to a settling basin, where precipitants are added. |
