Filter Presses & Belt Filter Presses

Filter presses are able to produce a considerably drier cake than most other methods of separating solids from liquids. A filter press consist of a number of plates held in a frame to ensure alignment. They are pressed together hydraulically or electromechanically. Solids are pumped into the press through the inlet port and processed over the plates which all have a drainage area covered by filter cloth. At the end of the cycle the much reduced cakes are discharged.

Belt filter presses are widely used all over the world , as they have low capital and operating costs. Double moving belts work in a three-stage process to dewater sludge and other biosolids. Prior to the sludge entering the belt filter press it is mixed with polymer, and the first part of the filtration process work through gravity drainage. Finally the sludge is moved into the compression stage where it is squeezed between two porous belts which feature a series of rollers to maximize the pressure.
