Generally it is possible to clean and overhaul even the most overloaded and sluggish of digesters. Over time overloading, loss of gas recovery or invasion of grit and trash can slow down or even interrupt sludge digestion, but by means of flushing pressurized water, pumping and venting all organic and inorganic excess materials can be removed. These residual solids can be liquidized and pumped away safely.
